Why SBT2055?

What is SBT2055?

-Scientific name: Lactobacillus paragasseri SBT2055
(previously classified as Lactobacillus gasseri SBT2055)
-Origin:isolated from healthy Japanese adults

Discovery and history

Lactobacillus gasseri SBT2055 (SBT2055), which originates in Japanese adults, was identified in the 1990s while researching the Lactobacillus gasseri, which exists inside the intestines, in search of a strain with flavor characteristics and resistance to stomach acid. In 2001, it was confirmed that this strain remains in the human intestines for a long time.

Driven by the expected health benefits of this persistency, various research has been conducted thus far. In a study published in 2010, the first human trials conducted confirmed that SBT2055 has the effect of reducing visceral fat. It was also indicated that the mechanism of this reduction is a fat absorption suppression effect in SBT2055.
In 2015, we launched a yogurt product containing SBT2055 as a Food with Function Claims. Later in 2018, we obtained registration as a FOSHU (Food for Specified Health Uses). In 2020, we launched a supplement product containing SBT2055 as a Food with Function Claims.
In addition to visceral fat accumulation prevention, SBT2055 has also been confirmed to have other benefits, including anti-inflammatory properties against gingivitis, and infection prevention against the influenza viruses.
